When you find yourself dealing with chronic headaches or back pain, it can really adversely affect the quality of your life. It can cause you to become less active in fear of worsening the situation.
Eventually, inactivity could eventually affect the rest of your health. The good news is you can do something about these pain issues without having to rely on prescription medication. Have you ever thought about scheduling an appointment with a top qualify chiropractor? If it is not something you have considered in the past, it might be something you want to think about now.
The reality is you are most likely going to have to continue dealing with your pain issues until you are willing to do something about it. Before you visit and doctor and consider any kind of surgical procedure, we encourage you to think about getting a chiropractic adjustment. There is a good chance that a chiropractic adjustment or two could relieve your pain issues.
Even better, it’s quite possible that you’ll find a visit to a chiropractor a lot less expensive than taking medications or having surgery. What does a chiropractic adjustment do? The whole goal of such an adjustment is to restore normal spine motion without pain. In the process, it should help the body return to normal function. If done properly, the patient should get immediate relief from their pain, though some residual side effects of treatment could exist for a day or two after treatment.
About the Chiropractic Adjustment Procedure
As for the procedure itself, it’s very safe and amazingly easy. It requires the firm hand of a licensed and trained chiropractor. They will start off with an intake process to determine your current state of health. In the process, they will want to know where you are experiencing pain and to what extent. You could then expect a physical exam that would likely include X-rays.
X-rays are necessary to make sure the chiropractor won’t be working in an area where there might be a more serious medical issue. Assuming everything is in good order, the chiropractor would begin the adjustment. They would need to position you in a way that will give them the appropriate access to the treatment area. Most of the time, they place patients face down on a padded treatment table that gives them clear access to the back and neck areas. The chiropractor would then start the adjustment process.
This will require them to use their hands to apply pressure at certain points along your spine, be it around the neck or lower back regions. They will use their hands to apply a controlled, sudden force to a specific joint, one joint at a time. As a word of caution, you would most likely hear cracking sounds as your chiropractor moves into your joints. Don’t be alarmed.
This is very common. It happens because the chiropractor would be pushing your joints beyond their usual range of motion. When the process is completed, you might have a headache or two or muscle fatigue in the treatment area. Again, don’t be alarmed. This is all a very normal reaction the body would have to the treatment. Within a couple of days, you should feel normal without the pain issues you started with. If needed, it’s very safe to go through the second series of adjustments. We would be remiss to not mention risks.
While any kind of medical procedure comes with risk, chiropractic adjustments are very safe. The following are very rare complications that might occur:
- Herniation of a disc being treated
- Nerve pain due to the compression of nerves in the lower part of the spine
- A stroke due to neck adjustment
We cannot stress how rare these complications are in terms of treatment. The chiropractor does the physical exam and X-rays so there will be little to no chance of complications. In fact, they wont do an adjustment if you were to have any of the following medical conditions:
- Severe osteoporosis
- Cancer in close proximity to your spine
- Numbness issues in your arms or legs
- Bone abnormalities
- A history of strokes or heart disease
